Hofburg Vienna at a glance

From its ownership structure and management team to its special focuses and aspects of its corporate identity a successful company presents itself.

Company
Founded in 1968, Wiener Kongresszentrum Hofburg BetriebsgmbH operates as an event centre under the terms of a long-term lease agreement concluded with the Republic of Austria. This private commercial enterprise has consistently turned a profit since its foundation without the help of federal government funding – except during the global pandemic years.

Owners
Wiener Kongresszentrum Hofburg BetriebsgmH is owned by a group of leading hotel and tourist industry companies including Columbus (COLUMBUS Reisen GmbH), MOTTO Catering, Hotel Sacher Wien (Hotel Sacher, Eduard Sacher GmbH), InterContinental Wien (Wertinvest Hotelbetriebs GmbH) and Schick Hotels (Schick-Hotels Betriebs GmbH). They are the perfect complement to the event centre’s business model.

Managing Director
In September 2025, Armin Egger took over sole management of Wiener Kongresszentrum Hofburg Betriebsges.m.b.H. Between 2009 and 2025, Armin Egger managed Messe Congress Graz / mcg GmbH and previously served as CEO/President of Davos Tourismus & Convention as well as in other international companies in the MICE and tourism industry. With extensive experience in the congress and event business, the management focuses on the key pillars of Hofburg Vienna: the highest quality of customer service, professionalism in event management, state-of-the-art technology, and a focus on driving important developments for the company.

Operations
The Hofburg Vienna offers 17,000 square metre of space spread across 35 rooms and halls for events for 50-4,900 people. Its core business is the rental of these spaces for conferences, meetings, banquets, gala dinners, balls, fairs, exhibitions, weddings, concerts and other events.

The conference venue and event centre’s USPs are the sense of history that comes with its location in a former imperial palace, its prime location in the heart of the Austrian capital and the one-stop service offered to its customers.

History
The Wiener Kongresszentrum Hofburg BetriebsgesmbH facilities are located in the Hofburg complex in parts of the Alte Burg, the Neue Burg and the Leopold Wing whose origins date back to the 13th century. Before becoming an event centre this unique space was a former imperial residence for centuries. Located in the heart of Europe and with some 10,600 hotel beds to choose from within just a few minutes’ walking distance, the Hofburg is also surrounded by about 40 restaurants, world-class sights, museums and upscale shopping streets. It is also easy to reach for travellers coming from outside the city: it is just 15 km from Vienna International Airport, 10 km from the motorway, 3 km from Vienna’s Westbahnhof railway station and 4 km from the new Zentralbahnhof station.
