Waltzing the night away at the HofburgThis year around 19 traditional ball events play out at the imperial Hofburg palace. During the carnival season, known locally as Fasching, around 60,000 ball guests from Austria and elsewhere take to the dancefloor, working wonders for the city’s tourism industry. The Hofburg Silvesterball got the Hofburg ball season officially underway on 31 December 2017. This imperial venue is famous the world over for the diverse range of events it hosts. Highlights include the sweet Confectioners’ Ball, the rocking WU, TU and BOKU student balls, and events with a distinctly Austrian flavour like the Hunters’ Ball and the Steirerball where guests dress in traditional Alpine fashion. And then come the classics such as the Physicians’ Ball, the Lawyers’ Ball and the Pharmacists’ Ball. Each and every one has a charm all of its own that guarantees a captivating and memorable night’s entertainment. Even though this year’s ball season is shorter than last due to a relatively early Easter, it is still expected to bring an increase in visitor numbers. The ball season is not just a highlight of the Viennese cultural calendar, but also a major factor for the economy of the city and Austria as a whole. The former imperial residence is the most popular ball venue in the nation’s capital. On average, guests spend EUR 275 on a night at the ball. As the host of 19 balls and counting in 2018, the Hofburg Vienna has a major hand to play in the sector’s success, and is contributing to the overall increase in overnight stays registered in the city thanks to its unique atmosphere.Gerstner Catering treats guests with its delectable food and drinks deep into the early hours. Over the course of the season, the company supplies 20,000 bottles (wine, champagne), up to five tons of crushed ice and more than 3,000 portions of its ice cream specialities. And then there are the always-popular Gerstner sausages, sandwiches and snacks – with Faschingskrapfen doughnuts a firm favourite.Preview of 2018Flexible layouts, multifunctional capabilities and new event designs have all helped reassert our excellent standing as an in-demand international venue. The venue’s list of references contains everyone who is anyone in the Austrian and international business, and science and research sectors, as the preview of 2018 shows.“The role played by employees as a resource is becoming more and more relevant as companies look for new ways to set themselves apart from their competitors and secure their own profitability” explained Managing Director Alexandra Kaszay. The idea that anything is possible has to be second nature to everyone in the team.“We need a special spirit, especially in terms of coming up with bold ideas, new product developments, innovative services and new business models. Many of our employees have been at the company for a long time – the 50 or so permanent members of staff have notched up a combined total of around 580 years – which ensures continuity within the team. And this is something that absolutely cannot be taken for granted in the tourism sector. Just a short time ago one of our regular customers summed it up nicely when he said: ‘it is a sign of quality that you do not have to keep on introducing yourself at the venue.’ Being in a position to build on tried-and-tested event procedures with fresh innovations – minus the time wasted on repeated introductory talks – undoubtedly adds value,” she added. Having the shared goal of implementing new events in mind also went a long way to helping various events at the Hofburg Vienna to win a number of awards. The organisers of Pioneers’17 became the first Austrian company to win the Golden Elephant in Porto for the best congress in the world. The nation’s top events are recognised at the annual Austrian Event Awards: our congratulations go out to the winners such as the FIA General Assembly and Event-Horizon 2017, both of which were held at the Hofburg. We are delighted for our customers.Versatile presentation toolsAs a pioneer in the congress and event sector we have a clear focus on digital communications, and are increasingly seeing that architectural space design, modular room separation and the number of different set-ups require extremely precise planning.
