Free WiFi internet access at the Hofburg Vienna

The Hofburg Vienna is among Europe's leading venues for conferences and events. As the pace of developments in communications and event technologies reaches fever pitch, the Hofburg Vienna is responding with its very own innovation management strategy. Going into the new year, the first step is the launch of free WiFi internet access. "This is a new service that we are providing for customers," said Hofburg Vienna Managing Director Renate Danler. Free WiFi can be turned on for any event at the Hofburg, at the request of the organiser. And the bandwith of the free wireless internet service is adjusted for guests according to availability.

A new version of the Hofburg Vienna website, optimised for mobile devices, has also been unveiled with the launch of the free WiFi service. Visitors can use their smartphones to access the site, with information on the Hofburg Vienna and a link to the Hofburg's Facebook Page, as well as information on Vienna, their current location, news headlines and weather. "The mobile website caters to the needs of conference guests from all over the world, meaning they can easily find information about the venue and get their bearings in Vienna," explained Danler. After all, around two-thirds of the events at the Hofburg attract international visitors. Meanwhile the Facebook Page is primarily geared towards Austrian users, providing news and updates from the Hofburg.

These innovations are just part of an overall strategy, encompassing the development of mobile services, augmented reality and hybrid events. Energy savings and sustainable facility management are also high on the agenda for the Hofburg, as well as the green meetings concept.
